What is a dress code? Is it to instill a sense of uniformity and professionalism or is it meant to protect men from the distraction of women's shoulders and mid-drift? While women may have more to cover than men, that should not be a reason to punish them and allow their male counterparts to wear short shorts and 'wife beaters' during the school day. Under the Dress and Grooming section of the student handbook, section a prohibits, "tank tops considered underwear." Given the male's ability to wear a wife beater without repercussions, we believe this dress code is unfair, especially towards female students.
