The shimmering metropolis Doha, roaring from the dusty desert over the past few decades is a perfect mirage in the making, as it lures millions of impoverished migrant workers from countries like Nepal, India and Bangladesh. As Qatar’s construction speed rolls to its peak ahead of the 2022 World Cup, so does the death of its migrant workers toiling under fatal temperatures.
The humanitarian crisis has taken an unprecedented course as this issue has been discussed since 2013. Migrant workers live in poorest and the most unhygienic conditions at the "designated labor camps" and are treated like slaves which cannot cannot go unrecognized.
Amnesty International revealed in their report, "insect infested kitchens, up to ten men sharing living quarters, sewage coming up through toilets, no showers" are some of the few occurrences that remain unhinged. And The recent Guardian Report (March, 2020) reveals that migrant workers continue die in record numbers daily while building these stadiums.
Qatar more than likely paid off FIFA to win the vote for the 2022 World Cup. It is amazing that everyone is essentially turning a blind eye to the atrocities ongoing today to build these stadiums. We have the power to speak in numbers to tell the World that we will not tolerate these unspeakable actions.
Some of the other reasons why it's important to STOP Qatar's World Cup Shame is enlisted as:
1) Threatened human rights of migrant workers
2) Appalling living conditions
3)Delayed Salaries
4) "Kafala" System that prohibits migrant workers from changing jobs
