Our research shows and many scientists and journalists have shown that farmed salmon is not sustainable. Open-net salmon farms pollute oceans, spread parasites that literally eat fish alive, and cause mass die-offs. Feeding these farms consumes millions of tons of wild fish every year — depleting the very resources coastal communities depend on.
Worse still, recent investigations have linked parts of the global salmon supply chain to Uyghur forced labor and other human rights abuses. That means the plate of farmed salmon placed in front of you may, in fact, be rewarding enslavers and exploiters.
Many restaurants and chefs are now rejecting all farmed salmon. over 150 eateries in the UK have pledged to stop serving it, and momentum is growing worldwide. Texas Roadhouse has the chance to lead in the U.S. — and to live up to its values.
We encourage everyone who cares about the oceans to write to and push Texas Roadhouse to remove farmed salmon from all menus nationwide and to commit to sourcing only ethical, cruelty-free seafood.
We hereby request that Texas Roadhouse publicly disclose their seafood suppliers and farming methods so that we can advise them on our findings regarding their methods. Farmed salmon has no place at a family restaurant that prides itself on quality and integrity. Much Norwegian farmed salmon comes from farms that are polluting and simply not-sustainable.
