Leesburg is booming, but our transportation choices are stuck in the past. Every day, neighbors lose hours in gridlock, miss family time, and arrive at work exhausted. We deserve better than a “drive or stay home” reality. It is time to demand a modern, reliable, and truly connected commute for everyone who lives and works here.
Many Leesburg and Loudoun residents are struggling with long and exhausting commutes to DC, often spending more than four hours daily traveling due to the lack of a direct express commuter bus route to DC.
Before COVID-19, Loudoun County successfully operated express bus service between Leesburg and DC. However, despite increased return-to-office commuting, overcrowded buses, rising traffic congestion, and growing demand for reliable transit, the County has not restored the service.
Residents are already paying high commuting costs, dealing with packed buses, toll roads, and inconsistent schedules while existing transit options remain limited and inefficient.
This issue affects more than convenience. Reliable commuter transit supports working families, reduces traffic congestion, improves quality of life, strengthens the local economy, and helps keep Leesburg connected to the region’s workforce opportunities.
I have formally requested Town leadership to work with Loudoun County officials to reassess the feasibility of restoring express commuter service and to support at least a pilot express route between Leesburg and Washington, DC.
Community support is critical. The more residents who speak up, the more attention this issue will receive from Town and County leaders.
